And so it begins!

"Let fear be your teacher, not your master."
Summer life is quiet in Wilmore.  Each Fall when the semester resumes, a new energy returns with the students.  Is it louder?  Crazier?  Perhaps even more reckless?  Sure; but, it's also more full of Christ's loving people.

Over the past two weeks, hundreds of students (starting with campus leaders and Freshmen) have returned to Asbury University.  Our exciting news?  Most of them have already visited the WGM student center and/or engaged with cabinet members.  In many incredible ways, Christ's loving people are eager to get involved.

Last Tuesday was the annual 'Freshmen Picnic,' where groups of new students tour the missions centers and then gather in our own back yard to fellowship (over food, of course). We here at WGM enjoy the time because it is a special chance to introduce who we are, what we do, and why we do it to Asbury newcomers (let's just say 'because it's family' was a common thread in a few cabinet members' testimonies).

This isn't the only time we get to meet-and-greet during the first week, however. On Thursday evening, the annual 'Activities Fair' takes place on the campus semi-circle. Everyone enjoys a picnic-style dinner, free goodies (candy, soda, shirts, etc.), and the company of both new friends and old. World Gospel Mission has a booth where students can come to get more relevant information (about events, mission trips, speakers, etc.) and meet some of the current cabinet members.

Already we are seeing an impact and God's heart in these students.  Our first Global Café had a FULL house, and many stayed around to enjoy the cookout-style fellowship meal afterward.  It was a brilliant kick-off to the semester, and we know and pray God will continue to move.

Our first Sunday night speaker was John Rinehimer, who brought up the parable from Matthew 7:24-27 (of the wise and foolish builders).  Through his funny, encouraging, and challenging message, WGM guests heard--among other things--how, "Everybody builds a house," and, "Everybody faces storms."  The Godly questions, then, are in the choices we all make.

How  will we build our houses?  How  will we overcome fear and obstacles from storms to move on with the life God has called us to?

One of my favorite quotes from the night was when John put it together so astutely, advising everyone to, "Let fear be your teacher, not your master."  As the semester begins and students plan for the coming weeks, some choose to commit to two things: coming to Global Cafés (to be spiritually present, mission-minded, and in fellowship), and letting God build their lives.

As you finish reading this post, do you dare ask yourself if you will commit to the same things?

Even if you are far from our campus, will you let God be your foundation?  Will you let Jesus build your house, and be your Cornerstone?  Wisdom is never overrated, and the Lord is ever trustworthy and faithful.  Please pray about accepting the challenge in your own life, and that our campus culture will continue to be built by His hands here and now.

Have a wonderful week!
